CV. Dipantara Takes Action on Climate Change Through Agroforestry

Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta – As the world grapples with the escalating challenges of climate change, CV. Dipantara, a community-centered enterprise, is taking concrete steps to address this global crisis through agroforestry. By integrating agricultural crops and trees on the same land, this sustainable approach offers a multi-faceted solution to mitigate climate impacts, with benefits ranging from carbon sequestration to biodiversity enhancement.

Climate change, largely driven by human activities such as fossil fuel combustion, deforestation, and intensive agriculture, leads to significant alterations in weather patterns and global temperatures. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen oxides are major contributors, trapping heat in the atmosphere and intensifying the greenhouse effect.

In a recent move to boost climate awareness and promote sustainable land use, CV. Dipantara partnered with KTHR, a local farmers’ association, to organize an educational session titled “Empowering KTHR through Conservation and Agroforestry Optimization for Climate Change Mitigation.” Held on August 26, 2024, at the Pilangrejo Village Hall in Nglipar, the event aimed to mobilize KTHR members to adopt climate-friendly practices and directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Key speakers included the Head of Gunungkidul Environmental Office, representatives from the Agricultural Extension Agency, and Universitas Gadjah Mada's Vocational School lecturer, Wiyono, S.Hut., M.Si., who highlighted agroforestry’s role in promoting sustainable agriculture.

Through agroforestry, CV. Dipantara hopes to empower farmers with practices that not only reduce emissions but also enhance soil health and maintain local ecosystems. “We believe everyone has a role to play in combating climate change,” said a CV. Dipantara representative. “Our aim is to build a sense of environmental responsibility within the KTHR community, encouraging them to take an active part in making a difference.”

This initiative marks a significant stride toward community-driven climate action, aligning with broader goals of sustainable development and ecological conservation. With increased awareness and participation, Dipantara’s efforts underline the potential of agroforestry as a scalable, nature-based solution to climate challenges.
