For 30 years, Alexia grants have supported student and professional visual storytellers, helping them produce projects that inspire change by addressing socially significant topics.

The Alexia Grants—Spring 2022
The Alexia’s mission is to support individual visual storytellers of all types. What storytellers address and what they say about life on the planet is more important than the genre chosen to address that topic. Your submission must include a synopsis, a proposal, a résumé and a body of work consisting of up to 20 photographs; you may also submit up to two varying story forms expressed in other media as part of your application, including audio, video, VR or any other visual format. Entries are judged as much on the strength of the written proposal as on the applicant’s visual skills. Grants are awarded to applicants who can produce significant projects that share in The Alexia’s mission and who demonstrate the ability to accomplish their projects. The Alexia Grant competition will begin accepting applications January 11, 2022.

Professional Grants
Professional grants enable professional photographers and visual journalists to produce substantial bodies of work that share The Alexia’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding. We value work that elevates understanding and hopefully incites change for the better.
Professional grant recipients receive $20,000 in funding.

The Alexia Professional Grant has an application fee of $50.
Student Grants
Student grants enable current college student photographers to produce substantial bodies of work that share The Alexia’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding. We value work that helps bring about change.
Student applicants are encouraged to consider proposing projects close to where they live; a successful body of work is more likely with easy access to the setting where the work will be produced. Most student grant recipients are already working on their projects when they receive funding.
Student Grant recipients receive a fellowship for tuition and fees to enroll in three courses during a semester at the Newhouse School. They also receive a $1,000 stipend and serve as the research assistant to The Alexia director, a paid position.
