The Mistra Geopolitics research programme offers financial support for up to three PhD students to spend the autumn semester of 2022 as guest researchers within the programme. We invite PhD students from low- or middle-income countries to spend a semester in Sweden and participate in the course work and activities of the Mistra Geopolitics Research School. The deadline for application is the 1 of February 2022.
The Mistra Geopolitics research programme includes a four-year research school mandated with the aim of training the next generation of scholars in methods, theories, and data collection for advanced analysis of geopolitics and sustainable development. The Mistra Geopolitics Research School contributes to the overall goal of the research programme by exploring the interaction between geopolitics, human security and global environmental change, offering training to doctoral Students.
The Research School is hosted by Stockholm University. Seven PhD students have been recruited in phase II and they all have their positions at one of the partner universities in the research programme: Linköping University, Lund University, Stockholm University or Uppsala University.

Science and politics in global and environmental governance
The Research School invites scholars from the partner universities together with work packages participants and the programme’s scientific advisory board to participate in its activities. The training offered by the Research School includes courses on geopolitical challenges and environmental governance as well as seminars where senior scholars offer feedback on doctoral students’ work and where issues related to policy outreach and research communication are discussed.
Mistra Geopolitics offers financial support for covering the travel and accommodation expenses for three PhD students to spend the autumn semester, September to December 2022, in Sweden. During this period a PhD-level course will be offered “Science and Politics in Global and Environmental Governance”, 7,5 ECTS. Each visiting PhD student will be affiliated with one partner university in the Mistra Geopolitics consortium and will have a senior scholar in the research programme to serve as a mentor during the stay. The successful applicant will be awarded up to 7 500 EUR to cover associated costs for travel and accommodation.
Who can apply?
In order to qualify for support, applicants must be enrolled in a PhD program in a low-or middle-income country. The topic of the PhD dissertation should be clearly linked to the research agenda of one or several work packages within the Mistra Geopolitics research programme:

- Sustainable Oceans (WP2)
- Decarbonization (WP3)
- Foresight Capabilities and Emerging Technologies (WP4)

How to apply?
The deadline for application is the 1 of February 2022. The application should include a letter of intent describing your research interests, how they relate to Mistra Geopolitics, and which work package within the program is most closely related to your research interests. Please indicate and motivate which partner university you would prefer being affiliated with (you may indicate more than one partner university). All applications should include a CV and list of publications, and be sent to Mistra_.goxkikgg2wvx86rx@u.box.com. You will receive an automatic receipt via email on your application.
